Winning Golf Resort Vacations

By: Winifred Holstone

Sun, sand, blue skies . . . and golf? If this sounds like your idea of paradise, then a golf resort vacation could be the ideal retreat you've been looking for.

Golf is a universal sport, and so there are wonderful golf courses virtually anywhere you're willing to travel. Here are just a few of the world's favorite golf resort destinations:

* Hawaiian Islands

Hawaii's many golf resorts offer the ultimate sports vacation. There are six glorious islands, each offering resorts that have been created just for golfers. Every day is the perfect day to golf in Hawaii, so it's an ideal year-round destination for avid golfers. No wonder so many of the world's leading golf course architects and athletes make the trip to experience the pinnacle of golf resorts. Kauai, Oahu, and Maui are popular for golf resorts that dreams are made of.

Hawaii's Maui island is home to some of the world's most impressive golf resorts. These little pieces of paradise offer sweeping views of the Maui coastline and glimpses of neighboring Lanai and Molokai islands. Humpback whales can be seen swimming along the coastline in winter, presenting Hawaiian golfers with yet another amazing site to add to the greens. A Maui golf resort is a true golfer's paradise, with spectacular scenic views of mountains and oceans, challenging golf courses and sloping terrains.

Given the extreme beauty and excitement of a Hawaiian golf resort vacation, it can be difficult to book a tee time. Despite the fact that these resorts can be more expensive, they are not always able to accommodate all of the golfers wishing to spend time on the greens.

* California

No "World's Best Golf Resorts" list is complete without naming some of the destinations found in Southern California. Home to many of the golf's most historic events, California golf resorts are among the best in the world, often chosen for International tournaments.

California offers a combination of natural beauty, perfect climate and genuine elegance, making it the perfect choice for business and for pleasure. Among the state's many celebrated places to play are the Double Tree Golf Resort, Pala Mesa Golf Resort and Mount Woodson. Whether you tee off with a view of the ocean, or a glimpse of those majestic mountains, California can be a truly remarkable place to spend your golf vacation.

* Golf Resorts in Michigan

The state of Michigan has earned the reputation as "America's Summer Golf Capital". There are 1000 golf resorts and courses, offering first-rate services and placing Michigan in 12th place on Golf Digest's list of best golf destinations in the world. In fact, four of America's Top 75 golf courses are located in Michigan. Clear waters, breathtaking vistas and lush fairways hook first-time visitors, and keep them coming back time and again.

* Golf Resorts in Florida

You can golf till you drop in Florida, because this state has more golf courses and golf resorts than you could begin to imagine. Of course, the golf courses and resorts in Florida offer first-rate facilities and amenities, from their pro golf shops and putting greens to the driving ranges, bars and restaurants.

Over the years, Florida has played host to many golf tournaments, including the international PGA and LPGA tours. In Florida, golf is nothing short of outstanding. With excellent accommodations and the best in dining, it's everything that a golfer could want in a golf resort vacation.

* Myrtle Beach Golf Resorts

Myrtle Beach is known as the "World's Golfing Capital", and home to first-rate golf resorts. With so many golf courses situated in and around Myrtle Beach, it would be difficult to find another place in the world that matches the sheer density of options.

* Golf Resorts in Ireland

You can search the world over, but nothing beats Ireland for real excitement, rugged challenges, excellent vistas and world-class golfing amenities. While it may not fit the typical "resort destination" bill, a golf vacation in Ireland is an experience that no golfer should live without.

If golfing is your passion, then consider a golf resort for your next getaway. With any luck, your spouse loves the sport as much as you do, and you can share the fun and excitement of your dream vacation.

proper golf grip

golf carts Comfort is of course a major consideration when choosing golf shoes. You're going to be traipsing across eighteen fairways (or more), and you don't need to be doing that in blisters. A good grip and solid support are also important in picking out golf shoes. As with many sports, a good base (your feet) can make all the difference in the world. Proper foot positioning, and support, are essentially the beginnings of a great golf swing. The pros, or staff at a good golf equipment store can be helpful in choosing a pair of golf shoes that are appropriate for you. Don't be afraid to spend in this category, as it is practically impossible to blow the bank on a pair of shoes, and your feet will love you for it.

When golfers are looking for equipment the importance of the cart golf bags are often overlooked. Being properly equipped while you are on the golf course is one of the most important things in determining if you will have a successful round. The last thing you need to happen is being in the middle of your round and not having exactly what you need because your bag does not properly hold everything you need.

Full Golf Swing - How To Generate More Power In Your Swing

By: Dean Caporella

Achieving a full golf swing as a senior player becomes more and more difficult the older one gets. Naturally, distance will wane over time but accuracy shouldn't and hitting the ball straight shouldn't be an issue if you've been playing the game for any length of time.

However, many senior players cite shortening distance as their main issue and dream of the times they used to be able to belt the ball over considerable ground.

This article is not going to turn you into the world's longest hitter but will help you maintain a full golf swing and help you maximize the greatest amount of power into your shot.

Winding Up For A Big Golf Swing

Achieving greater distance has a lot to do with the fullness of the golf swing. Many players will check their swings too early before coming down on the ball. They do this by fighting the bend of the elbow. If you're a right-hander that bend is in the right arm and vice-versa for a left-hander.

By preventing the elbow from bending naturally as you draw back on your shot is preventing you from taking a full wind-up and hence, by the time the club has made impact with the ball, the power generated won't be as great as it would have been if the elbow bend wasn't resisted.

The secret is to make sure your arms are flexible during the pre-swing period and to let the elbow bend naturally.

Overcoming Inflexibility

For older players, it's not so much resisting the elbow bend which affects their ability to get distance but it's more a matter of waning flexibility and diminishing power.

The older one gets the more the tendency is to hunch over. This only serves to restrict your turning ability thus affecting your power. Instead, practice standing straighter. Bending the knees ever so slightly, make sure your back is straight and you are bending forward until your club is in the contact position with the ball.

Practice this until you are comfortable with it and then take it to the practice range. The idea with this technique is to allow those older players who don't quite possess the flexibility anymore, to be able to take a full golf swing at the ball without compromising their accuracy. The club will swing in a more vertical motion because of the straighter stance.

Yes, it may feel awkward at first but remember, it's really only a minor adjustment in terms of the way you stand over the ball and shouldn't present any problems in it's correct execution.

Tips To Play The Sand Trap

By Lee MacRae

Following are some tips to help improve your golf game.

Ask any professional golfer the toughest shot in golf and he'll say the 60 yard sand shot. Even the top players have trouble deciding whether this calls for an explosion shot or a normal wedge shot. Fortunately, we average players don't have to make that decision. The 60 yard explosion just isn't in our bags. So we'll make do with the normal wedge shot. Stand squarely, with the ball in the middle of your stance. As with the long bunker shot, you should make contact with the ball first, to remain as steady as possible for as long as possible. As this requires you to swing with only your hands and arms, you'll want to take a club or two more than usual [but bear in mind that playing the ball farther back than normal will deloft the clubface slightly]. For anything up to 75 yards, the average players to use a pitching wedge hit with a three quarters swing.

Sand shots put such fear in the hearts of most golfers that they rush the swing fast and jerkily, thus making the good sand shot a matter more of happenstance than of planning and skill. The simple way to remedy this fault is to swing as slowly as possible. You'll find this lesson useful all over the golf course, but it is most useful in sand. Remember that the whole point of the sand shot is to miss the ball. You hit the sand, and the sand lifts the ball out of the bunker. Swinging faster usually doesn't help. Swinging very slowly will give you a greater feel of hitting the sand behind the ball, take the tension out of the shot, and ultimately give you the confidence needed to play any shot out of sand.

Hitting from a buried lie in the bunker [otherwise known as a "fried egg"] isn't as difficult as most golfers think. In fact, a shot that gets the ball out is closer to a normal golf shot than a conventional bunker shot is. That's because you play the shot with your clubface closed. Remember that the flange of a sand wedge is designed to prevent you from digging into the sand. But with a buried lie, digging in is exactly what you want to do. Close the face of your wedge, hit down into the sand and inch or two behind your ball. This is one of the few sand shots in which a follow-through isn't just important, it shouldn't exist at all! Some golfers have even been known to let the club go at impact. Note; this shot can also be played with a pitching wedge, which is almost guaranteed to dig in.

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

How To Play Bunkers And Sand Traps

By Lee MacRae

A bunker beside the green is a fearsome place to be. Surprisingly, this is one of the easiest shots to perfect and can actually be an enjoyable part of your golf game. Just learn the proper techniques and apply a few tips and your bunker game will flourish.

One way to prevent dipping and hitting your ball heavy when playing a long bunker shot is to concentrate on keeping the knees "on the same level" throughout the swing. Note that we say he "on the same level" and not just "level". The idea is to stop you from lifting up or bending down. If you lift up, either you hit the ball thin or you run the risk of hitting it fat if you bend down again. If you bend down first, you'll almost definitely hit the ball fat.

One of the most awkward bunker shots calls for you to stand outside the bunker when your ball is inside it. This usually results in unpleasant bending and a loss of balance. The key here is not to bend the back and stretch out to the ball. Concentrat instead on bending the knees as much as possible. Think of weightlifters. You never see them bending over to pick up their weights. They bend their knees, grab the weights, then simply stand up. Their legs are doing the lifting. Your legs, too, should do the bending on these tough bunker shots.

Trying to a hit tee from under your ball is a good drill for getting your drives in the air. It's also a good drill for sand play. Here's how it's done: Tee up your ball in a bunker, and tee it up high. It is the tee from under the ball. Now tee it so that the tee is just barely showing. Hit it out again. Now position the ball so that no part of the tee is visible, the bottom of the ball is flush with the sand. Practice until you can consistently hit the tee out of the sand, then play the same shot while pretending that the tee is still under the sand. The lesson here is that the golfer hits the sand and the sand lifts the ball out of the bunker. So at no point did you think of hitting the ball itself.

And no matter what you do, even for sand play, always imagine the shot before you take it. And imagine the shot being succesfull! Not much sense in defeating yourself before you even start. Imagine yourself being successful throughout your golf game and watch your game flourish.

Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

By: Lee MacRae

Are you looking to buy new golf clubs? Finding it difficult to determine what will work the best for you? Newcomers especially can become bewildered by the large variety of golf clubs you see when you are looking to buy.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

First of all, it can be stated that standard golf clubs will work for just about anyone standing between 5 to six feet in height. That principle applies to both men and women. Everyone else will want to consider having clubs made to fit.

Will that be cast iron or forged?

Generally, you will find that cast iron clubs are the way to go.

And there is a reason for that. Because of the larger "sweet spot" you tend to find on the cast iron clubs. That refers to the area right in the middle of the club face. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.

So why are forged clubs even sold?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The better players, on the other hand, will give up that larger sweet spot [and even some distance] to get that better feel of each and every shot they take. With a more consistant swing, they usually strike the ball dead center on most shots anyway. With the better feel of the forged iron club, they can draw, fade, hook or slice the ball deliberately when circumstances on the golf course require it.

The shaft of the club is your next thing to look at. Specifically the material it will be made from. Basically, you have steel or composite shafts

The crucial touchstone here is club head speed. An ordinary duffer on the links will have a club head speed in the range of 80-94 mph. Generating lower speeds typically implies you should use a shaft of composite material . The problem with lower speed is you get less distance on your shots. You need to generate more speed [and more power] or find some way to compensate until you can. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.

On the other hand, if you already have good distance on your shots due to good swing speed, you can add some touch and feel to your game very similar to that obtained by using the forged iron clubs. You get the best of both worlds.

You can find out your own swing speed by looking for a golf store that has a velocity speed gun or a radar gun package. It won't cost you much and you will know very quickly which type of shaft is best for you. You can even find some battery operated doppler radar devices on the market that you can set up and use to determine your club velocity by yourself.

With merely these few starting tips, it is normally best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or hampers your game. You are seeking to ascertain your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try out the various types and varieties of golf clubs available at your local golf course or in a nearby town and see what you can learn. You will soon determine the best approach to improving your personal score.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Tips For Sand Trap Play

By Lee MacRae

Are you afraid of sand bunkers on the golf course? Do you panic when you see one near where you need your ball to land? Follow along as we detail some tips and tricks to make sand play much easier for you.

The delicate explosion shot [where you see a puff of sand and the ball flies to the hole and stops on a dime] is tough to hit consistently. Most attempts see the ball rolling more than expected. So why not anticipate the roll and play for it? The idea is to take the spin out of the shot by hitting even farther behind the ball than usual [three or four inches is recommended] and compensating for the removal of power by making a full swing. Your ball will explode out of the sand but will roll a good three or four yards.

ARE YOU PLAYING WITH THE PROPER SHAFT FLEX

By: clubmaker

ARE YOU PLAYING THE PROPER SHAFT FLEX!

WHAT PLAYING WITH THE PROPER SHAFT FLEX WILL DO FOR YOUR GAME

If you want to avoid giving your game the shaft, you need to understand the effect that shaft flex has on your game. "Flex" refers to the ability of a golf shaft to bend as forces are applied to it during theperfect golf swing. Those forces are generated by the type of swing that you have -fast or slow, smooth or jerky. In our case of assembly also applied to this formula is the process of the Swingweighting & Balancing, which helps to assure that you have a repeatable and consistent swing that allows for more sweet spot contact as well as maximum shaft flex. The club which is an extension of your arms is guided thru the swing process and then by the way it has been assembled properly to your Personal Measurements and Playing Abilities will do all of the work for you properly, each and everytime and with each and every club.

There are five basic levels for shaft flex:
 Extra Stiff
 Stiff
 Regular
 Senior
 Ladies

To avoid having to carry double the amount of shafts, clubmakers carry what is called combination flex shafts, which means that the tip needs to be trimmed properly to get the proper flex for that particular shaft. They arrive as A/L Flex and R/S Flex. So it is then the Clubmaker that makes the shaft perform to it's proper flex by trimming it properly as stated by the shaft manufacturer. Having a flex that doesn't match the needs of your swing will result in the clubface coming into impact off alignment and either open or closed, causing your shots to go off-target, and most of all causing the loss of distance and trajectory. While causing you to have to swing harder or softer then you should be if you are swinging with the proper amount of swingspeed which is 80% of your maximum power. Thats 80% of your max while still being able to stay in a solid swing foundation. Shaft flex impacts, either directly or indirectly, the accuracy, trajectory and distance of your shot. Three pretty important things, with the missing key element being the ability to utilize the " Effortless Swing " which helps assure that you stay in a solid swing foundation throughout the entire rotation of your swing! As the shaft flexes throughout the swing, the position of the clubhead changes. And the face of the club must be square (perfectly straight) at impact. If you have clubs with a shaft flex that is not stiff enough, the clubhead will be tend to be closed at impact, sending the ball out to the left (for right-handed players). If the flex of your clubs is too stiff, the clubface will tend to be open, sending the ball out to the right. As well as have the main factors that are found alot more which are listed above in the loss of trajectory and distance. You can play good golf with clubs that are to stiff, but with the proper flex, you will play better, longer golf with less effort, which makes for a nicer outing, and less aches and pains after returning home.

QUESTIONS TO LOOK AT TO HELP NARROW IN ON THE PROPER FLEX

The degree of flex in your club shafts is something you control. You can choose to buy stiffer shafts, or softer shafts, depending on your needs or what you think your needs are, which mostly is inaccurate. As the 2 biggest problems Golfer's face today is playing with clubs that are not the proper playing length, or are not the proper flex for their ability. This only makes trying to lower golf scores all that much harder. But how can you tell what you need?

Here are some general guidelines:
-Take a look at which club it is that you use to carry the ball 150 yards in the air, with a smooth, fluent even tempoed swing. Also that you hit the most consistent without feeling as if you are swinging out of your shoes, a nice 80% power solid foundation swing. If you come up with a 4 or 5 iron, then you would benefit from an A Flex, or a firm A soft R Flex,(in between flex tipr trim), if you use a 6 or 7 iron then you are looking at a R Flex, 8, 9 or PW would say S Flex, but as a rule of thumb if you are an 8 iron or an 8 some times but mostly a 7 then R Flex is the way to go. Only if you truly are hitting a 9 iron or PW for 150 yards should S Flex be a thought. The biggest killer of trajectory and Distance is playing with to Stiff a Flex. Just think of a Diving Board, to stiff no height ,no distance, spring board, alot more height and distance. This is the method we have used and quite effectively if you read our 250+ Reviews, since the Swingweighting & Balancing that we perform also comes into play. Which when all is said and done enables you to take a much easier and controlled swing which will result in more accuracy and distance with alot less effort, " The Effortless Swing ".
-Most Men think just because they are big they need to hit Stiff shafts. It's a guy thing. Unfortunately, it's not always the smart thing or what is best for the way your equipment should be set up properly. No macho man wants to be seen hitting a wimpy little Regular flex club, or, TigerWoods forbid, a Senior or Ladies flex.
-But overswinging is a common problem among male high-handicappers. Choosing a softer flex often has the effect of forcing macho men to slow down their swings. And slowing down the swing often makes those macho men into better players.

The Foolproof Way to Choose Flex

A club fitting with a Golf Club Maker Professional who has recommended the way to choose the proper flex, from the questions he will ask. When you find a flex that is proper for your ability it will produce a much higher ball flight, longer distances and better accuracy all with less effort. Then you have the proper flex that's the right flex for you. Coupled with Swing weighting & Balancing that is only icing on the cake.

If you are going to be playing on a golf course then you will need good grip. To facilitate this you will require a good quality set of golf shoes, Golf shoes are different to normal shoes as they have spikes on them - these are so that you feet grip into the ground when you are making your swing. Slipping when you make your swing can have disastrous results - in some cases it can cause you to miss the ball altogether. These spikes come in all sorts of varieties, however soft spikes are the normal preference as they do not cause and damage to the greens when you walk on them. Golf shoes do more than just assist you in retaining your grip - the also give you the ability to keep your feet dry. When choosing a pair of golf shoes choose a pair which are sturdy, however they need to be comfortable as you could be walking a long way in them. If you do not feel comfortable in your shoes you will definitely not be able to concentrate on your game and could even do some damage to your feet.

Basically, there are two main components to play golf - there are the golf ball and the golf clubs. The golf ball is not just a ball it is a scientifically designed piece of equipment. The dimples on a golf ball are designed so that there is less resistance in the air - if you look closely at different brands of golf ball the dimples are slightly different and it you count the dimples on a golf ball some balls have more than others. The inside of the golf ball is also different - this inside of the ball is normally determined by how much spin you want to be able to impart onto the ball, both in the air and upon contact with the ground.

If you are struggling with lining up your ball to the spot you should aim, you may benefit from a stencil. You can use the stencil to mark the ball, after which you simply place the ball on the tee and swing with a clear target.

Improve Golf Swing Techniques In 9 Easy Steps

By: Joe Tierney

Tip 1: You will need your hands placed with your thumbs pointed the same direction. Just, imagine how hitchhikers have their thumb up. When, you have your club in the air, your thumbs should point upwards. There are other things you can think about as well that will help you have your hands in the correct position to improve golf swing technique. If, your giving a handshake then your hands will be the same as when your playing golf. Also, if you have a remote control in your hand, then most likely they will be in the same position.

Tip 2: You want to make sure you don't swing too quickly. While swinging the club, you should maintain a rhythm to improve your golf swing. While, you have the club in the air, you should pause before you bring the club back down. This will help you get the ball farther more often.

Tip 3: While swinging the golf club, you need to keep weight on the inner side of your right foot, and also have a slight bend in the knee. If you don't do this, then you may not have as much power in your swing. While you have the club back behind you, just make sure your right knee is braced. Doing this, will help improve golf swing and send that ball far.

Tip 4: Your wrists aren't the things that give you the power in golf. The part of the body that gives the ball the power is your leg muscles. People who are new to golf will try to use their wrists, and sometimes this might work. However, for more power more often, use your body and leg muscles.

Tip 5: You don't need to hit the ball hard into the breeze; this will only send the ball with more spin and make it go higher. You need to hit the ball lower with more control, so keep the ball a few inches in front of you and have your hands forward. In the breeze, use a longer club then you normally would use, and just swing with ease.

Tip 6: You need a good balance to have a consistent swing. You need to hit the ball with your feet close together. This will help you have better balance, and improve your golf swing, for when you go back to your old position.

Tip 7: Before, any pro golfer goes to the first tee; they go to the practice area. All golfers should do this; you won't need to worry about how you strike the ball here. You will be able to warm up and loosen those muscles before you play. When you hit the ball, you should have some wedges as you go down to the driver. This will improve golf swing technique and possibly prevent some injuries.

Tip 8: It's very important to balance your swing, so you will be ready to hit the ball. If you can grip the club correctly, then your hands won't slip off. Your right grip has the preference, because golf is played with your hands. You will also get to feel the hit if you have them correctly. You need to use pressure points, so you don't drop the club, and so you can focus on a rhythm to improve golf swing technique.

Tip 9: On the backswing, many golfers let their left knee collapse. Doing this, will make your hips sway and makes your shoulder drop. Instead, you need to make sure your left knee goes outward on the swing. Doing this, you will feel some tension in your knees. Think of it like your holding something between your knees to keep them in the correct position.

Take action now, use these golf swing tips and put them into practice. You can only improve your golf swing using them!

Tips For Sand Trap Play

By Lee MacRae

Here are some golf driving tips to make your sand and bunker game better. Take a trip out to the range and see what it does for your score the next time out

In general, a sand shot should be hit with a sand wedge, with both the stance and the clubface opened wide. The idea is to hit the sand and let it carry the ball out of the bunker. You should aim to make contact with the sand about two inches behind the ball and hit under and through. An important point here; with few exceptions, you should make a full fall through.

The sand shot hit from a downhill lie is one of the toughest of all. Here's how to hit it; the key is ball position. As with other downhill shots, you should play the ball back in your stance, in this case roughly opposite your right foot. Next, swing the club up abruptly, breaking your wrists. Keeping your legs and torso steady, hit into the sand 2 inches behind the ball. Follow through normally. There is not much margin for error on this shot, so once you've picked a spot where you want the club to make contact with the sand, concentrate on hitting that exact spot and followed through.

The longer bunker shot is one of the easiest shots to play and one of the most satisfying in the is entire game. Here are the six fundamentals of the bunker shot:

1. Choke down on the grip of the club to compensate for having to dig your feet into the sand to anchor your body.

2. Do not move the legs during a swing.

3. Take two or sometimes three extra clubs to make up for distance loss by the arms-and-hands-only swing. If you're within reach of the green, take as much club as you'll need for the ball to land near the hole. Because you're hitting down in to the back of the ball, the ball should have enough spin on it to stop quickly.

4. Play the ball in the middle of your stance so you can make contact before the bottom of your swing arc.

5. Always hit the ball first.

6. Don't ground your club. That's a two-stroke penalty.

Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play and understanding the subtleties of the various problems you can encounter will actually lead you to even enjoy the play from a sand bunker. I'm sure these tips will help you to enjoy your next round of golf.

What To Look For When Choosing The Right Golf Bag

By: http://www.birdgolf.com/

When you are gearing up for that first school experience, there is one thing that you do not want to be without: the perfect golf bags. Gear bags are not only essential in that they hold your clubs, shoes, and other accessories, they are also, like any other type of luggage, a reflection of your individual tastes, style, and personality. Some people carry very little in their bags, while others like to show up for their school lessons with an extra set of clubs, four bottles of water, two pairs of shoes, four towels, and a first aid kit. This is why taking the time to discover which type of carrying case is right for you is so important.

For those who prefer a walking game, there are several lightweight models and designs available that are strong and user friendly. These are designed to carry just the basics, and allow for the versatility of a walking game with the ability to carry clubs with greater ease. The style you choose can be anything from a basic, no frills color scheme, to a bright, bouncy hue, although you should keep in mind that while on the fairway, austere colors are really considered to be more par for the course, particularly for the professionals and those who aspire to become professionals.

For those who know that you prefer a cart, then you will want to find one that is specially designed for this purpose, i.e. to fit securely in the cart without tipping over. In this case, the weight of the bag does not matter as much, since you will not be carrying it around on your back, but it is usually a good idea to carry a small, lightweight carry style bag for just the bare essentials so that you will not have to drive your cart to every hole.

The lucky ones have caddies to carry their gear for them, but for most of us, while at school and otherwise, do not have this privilege. If you do, then the weight is not an issue unless you notice that your caddie is having trouble lifting it. Otherwise, remember that even if your bag is strapped to your cart, and especially if you choose a carry bag for your walking game, less is always more.

Last, but not least, price is always a factor. Though it goes without saying that the more money you spend, the more special features and customization options your bag will likely have, but remember, it is not a direct part of your game, its just an accessory to enhance your game presence and keep you from having to carry an armload of clubs across the course.

How flexible should the driver shaft be? This is a perplexing question for average players who seem confused by the give in a shaft. It's reasoned that the more flexibility a shaft has the greater power behind the point of impact. This is true in a sense but be careful you don't waste money here unneccessarily. Why? Because shaft flexibility should be in relation to the swing speed of a person's swing. The slower the swing the more flexible the shaft; the faster the swing, the less flexible the shaft for better accuracy.

How To Excel In Golf

By: Jimmy Cox

The characteristic approach to the game of golf by those who succeed involves a fixity of purpose which comes from emotional drive. The drive comes from what psychologists call "goal tensions," and this goal tension comes from the decision of the player to disregard the possible pleasures of the moment for the pleasures of final important achievement. However, the strength of this decision is apt to fluctuate from time to time and, to avoid its weakening, there are ways by which our drive can be further stimulated by conscious effort. Here are some of those methods:

1. Watch expert golfers in action. You will tend to identify with them, as you do with the hero in a movie, and as you do so, emotions of various kinds will be aroused which will stimulate your ambitions. After any tournament there is always a great flurry of golfing activity. The golf matches now being portrayed on television will result in even greater golfing interest.

2. Play in golf tournaments. A big emotional incentive comes out of competition. People learn much faster if their efforts are competitively successful. They experience an exhilarating lift to which they can easily become addicted. On the other hand, if they lose, their pride is stung and they may be stimulated to redeem themselves through a better showing.

3. Take lessons from someone you admire. Many a person has developed a lifelong desire to improve his game by the accident of having been around a person he liked who was a good player. It is not necessary to wait for such an accident to occur. Seek out the professional that you most admire and pay him whatever it costs for lessons. The ideal pro would be one who could both teach and play and also had personal qualities which would serve as a long-range source of stimulation.

4. Consider golf as a stepping-stone to material success. Golf has developed into big business and, in this business, there are many opportunities. Good playing can lead to money-making on a much larger scale than many other fields. This accounts for the fact that college players with promise are turning down other careers to take their chances on the circuit.

Many golfers do exceedingly well in selling clubs and other accessories. Some use connections developed on the golf course as an entree to profitable business deals. A good or even creditable game is a help in both business and social situations. If one becomes a professional even in a comparatively small way, he will find that the returns are good. In some cases, the returns approach the fabulous.

5. Consider golf as an aid to good health. Many physicians consider golf the ideal exercise as a promoter of good emotional and physical health. Without excessive strain, it enables one to exercise every muscle in the body. In addition, it promotes mental health by taking the mind off problems which produce emotional stress.

6. Be a "poor loser." It is not good psychology to cultivate an attitude of being satisfied with failure. Such an attitude is self-destructive, since it destroys the emotional drive that is required for sustained effort. Tommy Bolt was so heavily criticized for his angry reactions to poor shots and poor rounds that he set about to completely suppress his feelings. He said later that he quit winning the minute he started becoming a "good loser." I have known several amateurs whose games have deteriorated under similar circumstances.

This does not mean that one must be obnoxious in order to perform at his best. Our emotions can be directed into productive channels which will drive us to improve. It has been reported that Bobby Jones in his prime had unpleasant physical reactions during the stress of competition. In the best sense, this great sportsman was a "poor loser."

Golf Etiquette

By: Jeff Austin

The rulebook has a lot in it that you should know, but you dont have to memorize it, keep a copy in your golf bag and your will always be ready.

The way you should act on a golf course however, are things that you must know and observe.

Golf is special because of the many customs including good sportsmanship that go with the game.

Here are some of the most important ones you need to observe while on the green:

*Dont stand where a person putting can see you or your shadow

*No noise making, no opening and closing your Velcro glove or jingle the change in your pocket, and NEVER accidentally cough during someones shot.

*Dont applaud a miss even if it means you or your team now have an advantage, this is extremely rude.

*Always mark you ball, use a ball mark (given away in pro shops) a coin or rock are also acceptable, anything that doesnt move. Put it behind the ball on the extension of your target line.

Ask a player whose line is on your mark if he would like it moved and which way.

Put the heel of your putter next to the mark and place the mark just outside the toe. When the player is finished, move your mark back, if you forget it is a penalty.

*Watch where you walk on the green, know where the balls are and dont walk on their line or it extension on the far side of the hole.

*Walk well around the hole unless you are tapping a ball in or picking it up out of the cup.

*Dont drag your feet on the green, it damages the grass and causes spike marks that cant be repaired until you have finished putting.

*It is against the rules to give advice, except to your partner, so be careful what you say after you have holed out.

*Dont be a slowpoke, you dont have to rush but shouldnt take to long either.

How To Play Bunkers And Sand Traps

By Lee MacRae

Are you afraid of sand bunkers on the golf course? Do you panic when you see one near where you need your ball to land? Follow along as we detail some tips and tricks to make sand play much easier for you.

Landing in someone else's footprint in a bunker can be very frustrating. Especially if they are rakes stationed around the sand! But getting worked up about someone else's misdeeds won't help you escape. The trick here is to treat your ball as though it were in a buried lie. Pick up the club sharply and hit sharply down behind the ball to avoid the surrounding barrier of sand. You may also want to adjust your angle of attack depending on how the footprint lies. The only difference between the footprint shot and a buried lie shot is that you use a sand wedge and not a pitching wedge. You want to dig through the sides of the footprint [hence the angle of attack] but beyond that it's a normal sand shot.

Because every golfer wants to get up and down from greenside sand, there is always a great pressure to hit the ball close from a bunker. The fact is, however, that a top pro who gets up and down half the time is doing very well indeed. For this reason you should not concentrate on hitting sand shots to tap-in range [that is, to within three feet] as you would do for a long putt. Focus instead on hitting to within a target that's 12 to 15 feet in diameter. That gives you up to 7 1/2 feet to play with on each side of the hole can be much easier bull's-eye to deal with. You'll be more relaxed and will hit the ball even closer.

Don't take digging and planting your feet for granted. Digging your feet into sand will give you a firm base with which to hit the shot. Have Also it will tell you what you're dealing with: how softer or course the sand is, how deep it is, whether there is a layer of hardpan just under the surface. But be careful when digging in, however. If you dig in it too deeply, and then fill in your footprints, you will be guilty of "building a stance&&, which is a breach of rule 13-3. The penalty is two strokes in stroke play or loss or hole in match play.

And no matter what you do, even for sand play, always imagine the shot before you take it. And imagine the shot being succesfull! Not much sense in defeating yourself before you even start. Imagine yourself being successful throughout your golf game and watch your game flourish.

Tips To Play The Sand Trap

By Lee MacRae

Many golfers have a tremendous fear of sand traps and bunkers on the golf course. Let's take a look at some handy tips to improve your play from the bunkers.

When sand is wet or really firm, your sand wedge, with it's wide flange may very easily bounce off the surface and blade the ball. In such circumstances, it's better to use a pitching wedge or, when the flag is a long way off and you want your ball to run more, then use a seven, eight, or nine iron. Play your ball back in an open stance [much as you would do when playing a chip from the fairway] and position your hands just ahead of the ball. Unlike most sand shots, this one requires that you concentrate on hitting the ball first and not the sand. Work out your "landing area" before hitting the shot, and try to hit that area. If you miss it, don't worry. With all sand shots, it's far more important to get out the sand and to leave your ball close to the hole.

Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play and understanding the subtleties of the various problems you can encounter will actually lead you to even enjoy the play from a sand bunker. I'm sure these tips will help you to enjoy your next round of golf.

There are many types and styles available. But there are some very important things you should keep in mind before you make a purchase. Make sure there are enough accessible pockets to carry all the gear you will need to have with you. Check out the strap, is it sturdy enough to let you carry it correctly, and is it padded for comfort. You want to be able to carry the bag fully loaded so choose the weight accordingly. Being weatherproofed is a must, along with a rain hood cover. If you walk with a pushcart make sure it will attach correctly. Consider the built in club organizers and make sure it will work for you.

Equipment, Golfing equipment has moved on a tremendous amount since the games inception, as has the accessories that are now available. Perhaps the most important of these accessories to your enjoyment of the game, both in term of game improvement and the overall benefits to your health is the golf trolley. An electric golf trolley also contributes to your performance by helping you to maintain muscle control, balance and body symmetry throughout the entire game. Pushing or pulling a heavy trolley strains your muscles and people who pull their carts have the maximum chance of getting a back sprain. The ultimate result is that you fail to make the best strokes that might have got you a birdie. An electric Golf trolley, as the name suggests, is a battery operated automatic cart that could be either manual or remote control. It provides easy transportation of clubs from tee to green and allows a normal upright posture while walking. This reduces the risk of strains and injuries. This also provides added comfort and helps the golfer to concentrate on his swing.

Price is another factor to pay attention to. High prices do not always equate to a higher quality golfing product. When you pay more money, this doesn't mean your handicap will magically decrease. Tips For Sand Trap Play

By Lee MacRae

Following are some tips to help improve the sand trap play in your golf game. Practice these and see which ones work for you to be carried over to the course during actual play:

Here's another piece of visual imagery to help you cut your ball out of sand: imagine that a thick piece of cord is dangling vertically, just behind your ball.Nnow, open your stance to help you swing from the outside in, then use the leading edge of your club to slice the cord were it touches the sand. Soon you'll find yourself opening the blade properly, cutting through the ball the way the pros do.

Visual imagery is common in bunker play. Some instructors tell students to imagine that the face of the club is the palm of their hands, which they "slap" under the ball in the hitting zone. We prefer to think of money. A dollar bill is slightly more than six inches long. That means that if the bill is laid under a golf ball, about two inches of the ball would protrude back from the bill. As the ideal "explosion shot" demands that you hit into the sand roughly two inches behind the ball, you should pretend that you're hitting the dollar ball out of the bunker. This is an especially useful image because in order to hit the ball right out of the bunker, you'll need to complete your follow-through, and that's another important element of just about every sand shot.

The sand shot hit from a downhill lie is one of the toughest of all. Here's how to hit it; the key is ball position. As with other downhill shots, you should play the ball back in your stance, in this case roughly opposite your right foot. Next, swing the club up abruptly, breaking your wrists. There is not much margin for error on this shot, so once you've picked a spot where you want the club to make contact with the sand, concentrate on hitting that exact spot and followed through.

Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play will alleviate fears. Remaining calm and keeping some simple techniques in mind will turn your sand play in to childs play. Now head off to play golf.

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques

By Lee MacRae

Here are some golf driving tips to make your sand and bunker game better. Take a trip out to the range and see what it does for your score the next time out

Many golfers are afraid they will take to much sand and not get the ball out of the bunker. You know you have to hit the sand about two inches behind your ball. So, look for anything as a target - a crease in the sand, a small lump, a dark grain of sand, a small pebble - anything to aim for. Concentrate on THAT spot. Forget all about the ball. Just concentrate on hitting your spot in the sand with the right amount of club and swing. The sand will pop the ball out of the bunker.

Once you have a feel for the basics of playing from sand, you can easily understand some of the finer points of bunker play, and you will find it easy to adapt your technique to different types of sand challenges and lies. Make your golf game more enjoyable with good sand play.

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques

By Lee MacRae

A bunker beside the green is a fearsome place to be. Surprisingly, this is one of the easiest shots to perfect and can actually be an enjoyable part of your golf game. Just learn the proper techniques and apply a few tips and your bunker game will flourish.

When your ball is sitting up in sand on a rise that is caused by someone's footprints, don't be fooled into thinking this is an easy shot. Players tend to try to get the ball off the surface of the sand, or take too much sand in an effort not to hit it too far. Do the former and you may blade the ball. Do the latter and you may hit it fat. This is an instance where you want to hit not under the ball, but down and through it. Take your spot, about two inches behind the ball and slightly below it [because of the rise] and swing as you would for a normal chip shot. If you're still worried about getting it too far, move your weight back to your right foot. This will force you to swing more with your arms and will take some power out of the shot.

There are occasions when it's a good idea to putt out of a bunker, or use the "Texas wedge". The bunker should have firm sand and little or no lip, and there should be a smooth surface between the ball and the edge of the bunker. Address the ball as you would a putt, with the ball in the center of your stance. Swing with the arms and shoulders, but keep the wrists firm and the rest of your body, especially your head, absolutely still. The key is to make solid contact. Be careful not to ground the putter. If you do, you will be penalized.

Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play will alleviate fears. Remaining calm and keeping some simple techniques in mind will turn your sand play in to childs play. Now head off to play golf.
